Scholars agree Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq) is the earliest origin of handwriting dating back to 5,500 years.
The first ever form of handwriting, cuneiform writing was created by using a reed stylus to make wedge-shaped indentations in clay tablets.
Their script was written on 38 L clay tablets and was called 39 A cuneiform.
With cultural and language diversities, there were other forms of handwriting that were found in various places.

Following Mesopotamia cuneiforms, the Egyptians started writing various forms of handwriting with the help of papyrus and reeds brushes.  The use of this made their writing more smooth and hassle-free.

Post this around 1500 BC the ancient Phoenician alphabet was developed. It comprised 22 phonetically based symbols. It was widely used under the rule of the great Alexandre. By 800Bc it was widely spread to parts of Egypt, Persia, and India.

Dating centuries back, it used to be a symbol of status and people were trained for it. Manuscripts that were handwritten were standardized. Going further, in the 17th-century professional penman who was trained with excellent handwriting were appointed to write documents of the US declaration of independence.
